Student Achievement

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requires accredited institutions to publish student achievement data. Following is the stated requirement, and below is the student achievement data including student persistence, retention, and graduation rates by initial starting semester (semester cohort). KSI defines semester cohort as the group of students initially enrolled in a given semester. KSI defines student persistence as enrollment from semester to semester. KSI has a rolling academic year with fall, spring and summer semesters. KSI defines retention as enrolled for the initial semester and continued enrollment through the same semester in the following year. Graduation is completion of the MS Degree program, including completion of the MS Research Project. Success rate is defined as the summation of retention and graduation for each semester cohort.

HLC policy states that an institution's public information shall include information regarding student achievement. This information shall include student retention rates, completion rates or other information appropriate for the mission of the institution and its goals for students. This policy was created to align with the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) regarding accreditors demonstrating that accredited institutions uniformly divulge student achievement information.

The following charts present the applicable student achievement data for the MS Degree Program offered by KSI.

The following table presents persistence rates, students enrolled from semester to semester. The rate is defined as a ratio of current semester population over initial semester cohort's population. KSI definessemester cohort as the group of students initially enrolled in a given semester. The line chart following the table depicts the data graphically.

Figure 2: Retention Graph

The following chart depicts retention rates of semester cohorts. KSI defines retention as enrolled for the initial semester and continued enrollment through the same semester in the following year. KSI defines semester cohort as the group of students initially enrolled in a given semester.

Figure 3: Graduation Graph

The following chart depicts graduation rates of semester cohorts. Graduation is completion of the MS Degree program, including completion of the MS Research Project. KSI defines semester cohort as the group of students initially enrolled in a given semester.

Figure 4 Success Rate Graph

The following chart shows student success rates of semester cohorts. Success rate is defined as the summation of retention and graduation for each semester cohort. KSI defines semester cohort as the group of students initially enrolled in a given semester.
