A number of online resources are available to help students further explore and learn about subjects taught at KSI.  These web sites offer students opportunities to learn the latest developments in the field, identify key areas for research, and further develop skills through tutorials on software and techniques.   To access the web sites in each topic, click on the topic or page down to that topic.

Bioinformatics Organization
The Bioinformatics Organization, Inc. serves the scientific and educational needs of bioinformatics practitioners and the general public. It develops and maintains computational resources to facilitate communication and collaboration and provides open access to materials and methods for bioinformatics research, development and education.

Bioinformatics Analysis Web Sites
This web site is a companion to the second edition of the book Bioinformatics: Sequence and Genome Analysis.  Of particular interest is the Links section, which includes bioinformatics analysis web sites such as major sequence databases, protein databases and microarray databases.  The web site is free and available for all users. 

The Bioinformatics Information Portal
This UK-based web site is a free portal for professionals in the field of bioinformatics. Visitors must register to access the web site’s content, which includes news, products and services, events, webcasts, posters, and resources on bioinformatics. 

The European Bioinformatics Institute
The European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) is a non-profit academic organization and a center for research and services in bioinformatics. The Institute manages databases of biological data including nucleic acid, protein sequences and macromolecular structures. Of interest are the databases “to support data deposition and exploitation” and bioinformatics tools.

The Human Genome Project
This web page details the bioinformatics research resulting from the Human Genome Project, which was completed in 2003.  Research abstracts on bioinformatics are provided.

University of Delaware Library - Bioinformatics Subject Guide
A listing of internet resources on Bioinformatics (some listed above), including general informational web sites, organizations, molecular databases, and biotechnology products and services.


Network Computing
Network Computing is an online publication by InformationWeek.  Downloads of the current publication is available for free to registered users.  The site also provides access to industry news, discussion forums, research, a digital library (TechWeb’s Digital Library) of articles, and career information.

C# Station
This web site offers a free tutorial on C# through 23 lessons for students interested in learning the C# language. Under the links tab is a link their tools page, which provides various software tools for developing C# applications.

Visual C#
Microsoft’s official web page for Visual C# offers product information, learning resources and software downloads.


Java.net is a website for Java technology collaboration that “provide[s] a common area for interesting conversations and innovative development projects related to Java™ technology.”  Among the resources available are tools and other resources for students (https://jnstudent.dev.java.net/).  Registration is required to participate. 


Maya Community
The Maya Community home page offers updates, forums and downloads for Maya users.

Maya Tutorials Database
Almost 900 reviewed Maya tutorials are presented on this web site.  Also provided is a community discussion forum allowing users to obtain input and have questions answered.

This pdf file provides an overview of data management skills and SAS features that are helpful in a research setting. 

UCLA’s SAS Resources Page
This web site, created by University of California-Los Angeles’ Academic Technology Services, provides resources to students learn and use SAS.  The SAS programming web page list links to SAS programming resources, including articles, FAQs and online tutorials.

Software Engineering

Software Engineering Radio
Software Engineering Radio is a podcast for professional software developers with the goal to be a lasting educational resource.  A new original podcast is posted every ten days, covering software engineering topics, and are either a tutorial on a specific topic, or an interview with a software engineering expert.  SE Radio is an independent and non-commercial site. 

Open Project Directory - Software Engineering
The Open Directory Project, “the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web,” has a listing of software engineering resources organized by topic (e.g., development tools and programming methodologies), including some of the web sites listed here.  While some URLs listed are businesses and other commercial organizations, professional industry organizations and other resource-oriented web sites are also provided. 

Software Engineering Institute
The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University is a federally funded research and development center, advancing software engineering principles and practices and serving as a national resource in software engineering, computer security, and process improvement.  The SEI conducts research, indentifies and tests solutions, and disseminates solutions through training and publishing best practices.  SEI’s focus is on supporting organizations in the area of SE management, engineering and acquisition but this web site offers a number of SE tools, including resources for “learners” of software architecture (http://www.sei.cmu.edu/architecture/index.html).
