The Third International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering June 27-29, 1991 The theme of this international conference is the interplay between software engineering and knowledge engineering: How knowledge engineering methods can be applied to software engineering, and how software engineering methods can be applied to knowledge engineering. The pre-conference tutorials on June 26 cover the topics of cleanroom software engineering, Al techniques for software engineering, integrated computer-aided software engineering, and rapid software prototyping. In the two-and-a-half day conference, forty-five papers will be presented in eleven technical sessions. Three panel sessions will be held on information engineering methodology, ambiguity in software engineering, and knowledge representation for software engineering. Two keynote speeches by Dr. Elaine Kant and Dr. Avron Barr will be delivered at the opening session and the conference banquet, respectively. We plan to hold next year’s conference, SEKE’92, in Capri, Italy, from June 17 to 19. Three copies of manuscript (20-page maximum with 200-word abstract) should be sent by January 31, 1992 to: Prof. Genoveffa Tortora, Dipartimento di Informatica ed Applicazioni, Universita di Salerno, 1-84081 Baronissi (Sa), Italy (E-mail: mcvax! inria! udsab! jentor@uunet. UU.NET or usditort@inacriai.bitnet FAX: 011-39-89-822272). It is also my pleasure to announce the publication of the International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering, which is a direct result of this series of conferences. Every SEKE’91 participant will receive a free copy of the inaugural issue of the journal I JSEKE. You are cordially invited to contribute your papers to this journal. You can also subscribe to volume one of I JSEKE at the special discount price of $40 (see attached registration form). I would like to thank the program committee, especially the program chair Dave Hurley, and all participants and contributors, whose active participation has made this conference a success. Shi-Kuo Chang Conference Chair, SEKE’91
