S E K E '9 5 Seventh International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering June 22-24, 1995, Rockville, Maryland, USA ********************************************************************** Sponsored by: Knowledge Systems Institute (Founder and Organizer) The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory University of Pittsburgh In Cooperation with: ACM (SIGSOFT), IEEE Computer Society (TC on Software) Scope --------- The main theme of this conference is the interplay between software engineering and knowledge engineering: how knowledge engineering methods can assist the software engineer and how software engineering techniques can be applied in knowledge engineering. To this end, SEKE'95 aims to bring together academic and industrial researchers and software developers from many countries to exchange ideas and results. Preference will be given to papers that emphasize the main theme, but outstanding papers on software engineering or knowledge engineering alone are also solicited. SEKE '95 will feature several half-day tutorials on June 20 and 21, followed by a three-day technical program consisting of parallel tracks which will include paper sessions, panels, and workshops. Tool demos also are planned. Paper presentations will be approximately 20 minutes each with 5-10 minutes for questions and discussion. Suggested Topics of Interest -------------------- - Knowledge engineering in software engineering - Software engineering in knowledge engineering - Software process models - Requirements elicitation - Formal methods - Visual specification and software visualization techniques - Reverse software engineering - Software maintenance and reuse - Software reliability - Design and evaluation of CASE tools - Specification and design of multimedia systems - New languages for software and/or knowledge engineering Paper Submissions --------------------- Original papers on the above topics including software engineering and knowledge engineering are invited. These must not exceed 22 double-spaced pages (including 200-word abstract, figures and references); longer papers will not be refereed. An additional cover page should include title, authors, complete contact information, and four or five keywords. Please submit four copies of the paper to the following Program Co-Chair: W. David Hurley Dept. of Computer Science E-mail: hurley@cs.pitt.edu University of Pittsburgh Tel: 412-624-8843 Pittsburgh, PA 15260, USA Demonstration Submissions --------------------- Proposals for giving demonstrations of tools or environments should include a description of the demonstration, any hardware requirements, a named presenter, and complete contact information. Please submit four copies of the proposal to the Demonstration Chair: Daniel E. Cooke Computer Science Department E-mail: dcooke@cs.ep.utexas.edu University of Texas El Paso Tel: 915-747-6956 El Paso, TX 79968-0518 USA Panel and Workshop Proposal Submission --------------------- Proposals for a panel discussion should include a title, a named moderator, complete contact information, abstract, and brief biographies of 4 - 5 panel members. A workshop can be one or a few people leading a discussion, or it can be a number of topical papers presented by authors that the workshop chair has selected. Proposals for a workshop should include a title, contact information, the name(s) of the presenter(s), brief biographies, an abstract, a list of any special requirements for materials or equipment, and minimum and maximum numbers of participants. Please submit four copies of the proposal to the Panel/Workshop Chair: Robert G. Reynolds 1064 Beechmont E-mail: reynolds@cs.wayne.edu Dearborn, Michigan 48124 Tel: 313-562-5571 USA Tutorial Proposal Submissions --------------------- Tutorials on the above and related topics are solicited. Proposals should include a two- or three- page summary containing the title, authors, contact information, abstract, description of tutorial content, intended audience and level of the tutorial, and the background of each instructor. Please submit four copies of the proposal to the Tutorial Chair: Ralph D. Semmel JHU/APL E-mail: rds@aplcomm.jhuapl.edu Johns Hopkins Road Tel: 410-792-6179 Laurel, MD 20723 USA Important dates --------------------- ** Deadline for submission: January 10, 1995 ** ** Notification of proposal acceptance: January 21, 1995 ** ** Notification of paper acceptance: February 5, 1995 ** ** Camera-ready papers due: March 1, 1995 ** Registration Requirements: Presenters of accepted papers, people demonstrating software and members of a panel or workshop are expected to register for the Conference. Published Proceedings ------------------------- The published Proceedings will include accepted papers in full-length. Participants in panels and workshops will be allocated up to one-page in which to describe their contributions. Due dates for submission of panel and workshop contributions will be the same as for camera-ready copy. Of course, workshop and panel participants are also encouraged to publish the full version of their contributions by submitting full- length papers to be refereed. Conference Location ------------------- The Conference hotel is the Holiday Inn Crown Plaza. It has modest prices, excellent facilities, and right behind it is the Twinbrooke Station of the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan subway system, which will take you quickly and safely to Washington's many famous landmarks. While in Washington, you will want to take advantage of the free admission to all of the Smithsonian Museums, including the Air and Space Museum, which houses the actual moon-landing capsule, and The National Art Gallery, with both traveling and permanent exhibits. In the Mall area, a continuous shuttle takes visitors to all of the major sights, including the Smithsonian Museums, Arlington Cemetery, The Capitol, and the renovated Union Station, a beautiful train station which also houses restaurants, shops, and a theater.
